MINISTER OF JUSTICE AKIN GÜRLEK: "IN CARRYING OUT THE REQUIREMENTS OF JUSTICE, WE DO NOT CONSIDER ANYONE'S POSITION, TITLE, OR INFLUENCE"
Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek stated that the administration of justice does not take anyone's position, title, or influence into account. Gürlek disclosed that the HSK's Second Chamber issued substantive rulings on 525 judges and public prosecutors in 2026, of whom 333 were sanctioned — 168 warnings, 24 reprimands, 23 salary reductions, 4 suspensions of step advancement, 30 involuntary reassignments, and 84 dismissals from the profession.
Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) Akın Gürlek noted in his statement that the HSK's oversight and disciplinary mechanisms continue to function effectively.
Referring to the state's ongoing effort against criminal actors and organized crime that threaten public order, Minister Gürlek said: "In carrying out the requirements of justice, we do not consider anyone's position, title, or influence. This sensitivity applies equally to members of the judicial organization."
Emphasizing that the overwhelming majority of judges and prosecutors carry out their duties in accordance with the law, conscience, and professional integrity, Minister Gürlek continued:
"It is equally clear, however, that this status affords no one special privilege. Our Council of Judges and Prosecutors operates its oversight and disciplinary mechanisms effectively. In this framework, the HSK's Second Chamber issued substantive rulings on 525 judges and public prosecutors in 2026. Of these, 333 were sanctioned: 168 warnings, 24 reprimands, 23 salary reductions, 4 suspensions of step advancement, 30 involuntary reassignments, and 84 dismissals from the profession."
84 DISMISSED FROM THE PROFESSION
Stressing that oversight mechanisms will be further strengthened, Minister Gürlek said: "As we increase the speed and effectiveness of our justice system, we will further strengthen our oversight mechanisms. We will continue our determined fight against organized crime externally, and against any conduct within our judicial organization that undermines the law or professional integrity."
